Reducing Digital Clutter: Regaining Our Lives and Focus
Reducing Digital Clutter: Regaining Our Lives and Focus
How many times a day do you reach for your phone without even realising it? What are you really looking for? Perhaps you are trying to suppress distractions or fill a void. Understanding this habit is the first step to managing it.
Ask yourself:
When exactly do you pick up your phone?
What triggers this action?
Where do you use it most often? While waiting in line, in the bathroom, in the elevator?
How does your posture change?
How do you feel before and after using it?
What content do you look at most? What notifications do you respond to?
What would you actually like to focus your attention on?
How Does Real Communication Feel?
Remember that sense of satisfaction you feel when having a deep conversation with a friend. That real connection is missing from social media scrolling.
Simple But Effective Steps:
Delete social media apps. Access them only through your browser, with the purpose of accessing them when needed, not scrolling.
Turn off all notifications. Silence is the strongest ally of focus.
Change your charging spot. Charge your phone in a place away from your bed. Start your day with yourself, not with your phone.
Don't put a charger everywhere. The more accessible your phone is, the easier it is to turn to it.
